2018 Life Is Rose
100% Barbera. This wine continues to evolve and get better and better with each vintage. Wild strawberry and light red fruits finish with a crisp acidity note that smothly lingers on.
The wine has a delicate pink rose color reminiscent of Provence. Aromas of tart red fruits, strawberry, cranberry, rose petal, and lemon zest. Citrus flavors combined with cranberry finish with a beautiful crisp acidity. An excellent balance from start to finish the wine lingers on the tongue and lips.
Coyote Canyon Vineyard
2018 was another magical year here in Washington. We had lots of sunshine. It was a warm vintage, but things cooled off at just the right time. The spring was mellow after a mild winter. We did get a few rains that helped early season growth. The summer was starting to get hot and then the fires started. First up in Canada, then it seemed like everywhere. The smoke didn’t impact our fruit, but it did linger making it bothersome for a few weeks. We picked these grapes right before Labor Day weekend. It was machine harvested and fermented at the winery. Bottled in January 2019.
I have continually evolved my approach to making this Rose and have found an expression I really enjoy. A big key to creating the type of Rose I want is picking when there is enough intensity of flavor, high natural acidity and not too much sugar. The grapes were handpicked and delivered to the winery where they were loaded into the press. After pressing the wine was cold soaked for a few days before starting the fermentation. A long cool ferment ensued, helping preserve the delicate aromas and flavors of the wine. The wine was filtered prior to bottling. 100% Barbera this is truly an expression of what a single varietal Rose can taste like from Coyote Canyon Vineyards. I hope you enjoy drinking this as much I enjoyed making it.
