Coyote Canyon Vineyard
100% from our Coyote Canyon Vineyard. This block of Roussanne is planted down in the lower elevation at our site. It allows the grapes to ripen and feel the affects of the cool evenings. 2016 was a hot vintage and we tried to compensate by allowing this block to carry a little more tonnage than normal. The higher tonnage slowed down the ripening a bit and allowed the fruit that extra week or two that helped it gain more tasty flavors.
Roussanne has been a great varietal to work with. New to me when I started in 2013 I'm starting to get a better feel for this grape. It has unique profile that shines. I think of it as having a wet rock component and slate with the subtle fruit notes. I play around with the percentage of Viognier that I blend each year, this vintage got 10%. One of the first things we pick each year I know harvest is going to get rocking when we bring this in.
