Light and fruity with honeysuckle and pear flavors. Slightly sweet with a nice crisp minerality note.
The wine has an aroma of melon, pear and honeysuckle, there is also a component that makes me think of wet rock and slate. The wine is light, bright and refreshing. At first tastes the wine seems a little sweet but is lighter bodied with a nice crisp finish. Tropical fruit flavors, herbs, and spice combine to make for an exotic tasting experience
Coyote Canyon Vineyard
2015 was a very hot vintage in Washington. A typical vintage in Washington is warm but 2015 was insane, the heat units accumulated so quickly we were picking 3 weeks earlier than an average year.
As with any year many challenges were faced, and adversities overcome in order to grow and create an exceptional wine. The summer was hot, but we didn't have a lot of days over 100 degrees which allowed the crop to ripen at a nice pace, be it faster than a typical vintage. When Fall arrived the grapes were ready about three weeks ahead of typical. The Roussanne was handpicked and whole cluster pressed. The wines from 2015 show great promise.
This has been one of my favorite wines to make since starting to make wine with Coyote Canyon, I have always enjoyed Roussanne and after working with it for a few years really appreciate how clean and smoothly this wine ferments. If you come by the winery during harvest I am more than likely going to try and make you taste this wine out of tank, this year it had an interesting sour green apple color just after fermentation that made it look almost radioactive. The wine is made in 100% stainless steel to highlight the fruit aspect of the varietal. The grape is picked early enough to maintain its natural acidity which helps give the wine a crisp finish. Usually a little Viognier is blended in to add a little flavor to the wine, this year it got 5%.
